Objective:
Create a premium, patisserie-inspired packaging box to launch Bourjois’ Macaron Melt products.
Brief
For the launch of Macaron Melt, Bourjois sought a packaging concept inspired by upscale French patisseries. The goal was to design an elegant serving-tray style cuboid box with two rounded corners, aligned with brand colors and complete with a complementary handle for convenience. It needed to house five Macaron Melt products securely while maintaining structural integrity, visual delicacy, and the charm of artisanal confectionery.
Challenges
Premium look and feel required within a strict budget.
Complex structure due to rounded corners and tray-style configuration.
Precision fitting to ensure the cover and tray aligned smoothly without being too tight or loose.
Solution
We opted for a hybrid material approach, combining food board for flexibility and grey board for structural strength, keeping costs down without sacrificing quality. Selective foiling was incorporated to introduce luxury accents while maintaining budget control. The paper engineering involved 4–5 stages of prototyping to perfect the curves, form, and overall durability. Precision sizing and repeated testing ensured the lid and base aligned seamlessly, delivering both usability and aesthetic harmony.
Outcome
A total of 500 Macaron Melt boxes were produced and delivered across the GCC. The final packaging captured the charm of a French patisserie, remained true to Bourjois’ brand identity, and balanced beauty, function, and cost-efficiency. The client was pleased with the execution, craftsmanship, and overall launch impact.
